Leh and Ladakh

This is almost a plateau at a height of almost 10000 Ft. hence it is the highest plateau where the civilian people live, in India. Ladakh is Sandwiched in between the Himalayan and Kunlun ranges and it also includesthe upper Indus River Valley, Leh is the main city in the region followed by Kargil. The Ladakh region can be called a desert in high altitude, as the Himalayas block the way of Monsoon clouds, creating a “rain shadow”. Hence, the snowfall in the winter is the main source of water in Ladakh. Due to the heavy snowfall, Ladakh remains cut off from the rest of Kashmir for several months.

Leh has become a dream destination for many tourists. It is a heaven for all the visitors with numerous trekking trails, picturesque valley and beautiful lakes. Leh is also renowned for the Buddhist monasteries and monks. There are a lot of Glaciers in Ladakh and a few of them are Siachen, which is the highest war front in the world, Baltoro and Hispar Glaciers. There are many rivers in Leh and ladakh region and Leh is criss-crossed by a few of them. The great Indus river mainly flows through Ladakh region after origination from the lake Manasarovar in the Tibetan plateau. River rafting is a major event for the adventurers and they opt the rivers of Indus and Zanskar.

Leh Ladakh can be defined as a land of rivers, valleys and mountain passes. Khardung La pass, Chang La pass, Marsimik La pass and Tanglang La Pass are the most important ones. Khardung La Pass is the highest motorable road in the world, having a height of 18380 Ft., which is also a gateway to Nubra Valley and Siachen Glacier, Tanlang La pass in the second highest motorable road at the height of 17582 Ft., which leads from Leh to Manali through Rohtang Pass.
