Jammu

Jammu is the gateway to Kashmir and also the winter capital. It is situated on the banks of River Tawi. In AD 1730, Jammu came under the rule of the Dogra chiefs and they merged Jammu and Kashmir into one kingdom and continued to rule it till India became independent in 1947. Jammu is surrounded by lakes, hills, fortresses and temples. It has an artistic tradition, which are depicted elegantly on these temples and fortresses.
